Weird:  God’s call to his people is unique.  To follow God’s leading is not common or normal, it is downright weird.  God’s uncommon call to his people is a reflection of own uniqueness.  God’s call for his people is to be weird, because what the world calls “normal” is just not working.  Inspired by Craig Groeschel’s book Weird we will look weird things God does, and calls for us to do.

January 8- Weird God: Joshua 6:1-21 (Jericho) “A Weird Request”

We live in an instant world.  High-speed internet, email at our fingertip’s, cell phone’s everywhere you go, and fast food.  But God’s answer to prayer doesn't always happen in our timing, or the way we had planned.  What about when God answers our prayers with something weird?

What if you knew God would answer any prayer, what would you pray for?  Why wouldn’t you ordinarily pray for that?  God is ready to answer big prayers, and show up in suprising ways in our lives, but will we pray BIG prayers and have BIG faith that he can and will?

When we say God will provide, do we sometime also mean, God will take care of it, I can sit back and watch?  God speaks to his people that He will do great things among them, but they have a role to play, will we do our part?

We see Quarterbacks kneel down and point to heaven, and celebrities thank God for their Oscar.  But do we forget in the midst of it, who really is making this all possible?  Is it possible that we are too strong, gifted, or powerful that we might forget God’s role in all we do?

Normal way to handle time is double book yourself, drink some extra coffee, and sleep when you are on vacation. Yet God lays out another picture for us of time.  We see a picture of rest, humility, and peace.  God even says we will be more fruitful if we would take a break.  Sound good?

On Valentine’s Day the world talks about love and romance. But what does God say about Love? What does God say about romance? The bible paints a picture of what love and romance should be like ,a deep almost overwhelming love that transcends anything thing that the secular world can imagine. The Bible contains some of the greatest love stories of all time.  

Being weird is hard.  Jesus makes it clear, to do what He asks is hard, and few people will even try.  But our calling is still to be obedient to God’s leading, but to get there will not come naturally, it will take time and dedication, and cause others to look and say, what’s with them?
